Life has been moving too quickly for me to document my menial
existence. Check back again soon when my existence is not so menial!
In the meantime, here’s a Cliff Note’s version (may Cliff rest in
peace) of the past 5 months (in no particular order).
- I left medicalrecords.com
- I began doing freelance web development
- I finished a Palm-based interface for The Answer Page
- I began moonlighting at MIT’s After Hours Medical Center, thus getting in touch with my “medical” side again.
- I’ve begun helping out with the OpenACS 4 project and have so far ported the Notes module, Download module and Ticket-Tracker-Lite module.
- My grandmother passed away at the age of 91 on March 31, 2001. She was a strong vibrant woman and remained that way up until her passing.
- My cousin Deepu matched at UCSF for internal medicine!!! What a stud! Of course, I’m only saying that so he’ll let me stay with him when I visit SF :-)
- My cousins and I went sea kayaking in North Carolina and survived! Physical effort, natural beauty and comraderie combined to make it a perfect weekend away from the daily grind.
- We celebrated my roommate Gerry’s bachelor party in Miami. Enough said ;-)
- My brother Manu got a sweet job at Harley Davidson!!! He’ll be travelling to places like Japan, Brazil and Australia and taking his little brother with him (hint, hint)
- A bunch of other stuff happened, but my fingers are getting tired.
I finished porting the homepage module from
ACS to
OpenACS. Actually, it had already been ported,
but the ACS version changed substantially, so I guess I merged the new
ACS version with the old OpenACS version. Anyway, it works! Here’s the
file -> homepage.tar.gz
I found a Y2K1 bug … well, not really, but I found and
fixed a minor problem in the OpenACS toolkit that only occurs on the first of every
year.
I’ve coaxed my wireless card to work on LinuxPPC. Read how I did it. This link is now gone
because it’s obsolete…. vinod.
My cousin Deepu and I (plus about 30,000 or so other people) ran the
Chicago Marathon. Cross that off my
life’s to-do list!
My roommate Gerry has somehow tricked Kim into getting engaged! :-)
I’ve started a new rotation in at a chronic rehab hospital in Waltham,
Massachusetts. It’s definitely a different pace from any other work
I’ve done before. I’ve been learning a lot about bed sores and tube
feeding!
An opportunity arose that I just couldn’t pass up. I’ve been offered a
position with an internet startup company. The company is
medicalrecords.com and is focused on
providing a place for patients to store their own medical records.
Well, I’m gonna be here in Green Bay for a little while longer,
probably until Thanksgiving. So far, I’ve been working mostly night
shifts, bringing back vivid memories of ‘night float’ during
residency. Overall, I’m really enjoying it. Everyone’s really nice and
welcoming. It’s quite a change from residency when you’re the low man
on the totem pole. The patient population is more primary care
oriented. I’ve seen one transplant patient so far, wheras I used to
see almost one-a-day in residency. I couldn’t think of a better way to
transition from residency into real-life…
I found out recently that I’ll be spending 3 weeks (maybe longer) in
Green Bay, WI. I’ll be working as a hospitalist at St. Vincent’s
Hospital (Prevea HealthCare). It’s a 580 bed hospital with 40 ICU beds
and I’ll be doing 12 hour shifts - mostly day shifts, but a couple
nights. It should be fun! I’m looking forward to being back in
Wisconsin, especially Green Bay, for football season. Go PACKERS!!
